When Durance starts it will place players in the start of the fourth Epoch…
The Second Epoch, that of Fire, saw a change in the relationship between gods and their creations. The more the gods fed into their creations the more powerful they became. Some of the gods became enamoured with their creations and bore children with them, creating what were referred to as Shards.
These Shards had the limitations of mortals but unexplainable capabilities for power. Some gods saw them as a threat, others as a weapon. Wars raged across the realm as the Shards brought the power of the gods to bear against each other, and against the gods themselves.
The common people, outnumbering the shards but vastly under powered sought a solution. They found through their research a hidden power in the realm, a way to create a primal force. Tapping into it they used the power to bind and destroy the last of the gods and hide the shards away in a prison they called the Durance
“We stepped into the last bastion of Ferak the Black, the last Shard in the burning Sands. Ferak was a knight of his god, someone we already saw die a season ago, but even without his patron he was a ferocious fighter and thousands had already fallen to him. But we were prepared, and he was trapped. Tonight we would capture the Black.”
Inquisitor Meada – Journals of the Briars

Even without the paintings, this has a prominent Grecian vibe. More so than most fantasy, which is saying a bit. Kind of a Primordial>Titan>Gods things, almost. Locked away Titans/Shards, dead Primordials, new gods, etc. I also believe that demigods were part of that mythology, though I may certainly be wrong. Christian Nephilim and Grecian Demigods are similar to the Shards, but also are found in a lot of fantasy, to my myth and fiction are all mixed up on that point.
