You think you can hide my prize behind those walls? I shall burn the gates, I shall melt the locks, I shall wash away your forces with a tidal wave. Magic is my shadow and I am your worst nightmare are.
Olivia Borne – Before the fourth sacking of Rivershear
The birth of Magic
When the gods faced the fact that the void had been made manifest they came together to give up a large amount of their power to create magic. It is a force that permeates everything and can be tapped into by those that are either trained to use it or are naturally Attuned to it. Most see it as a sea that is unlimited in its depth.
Tapping into Magic
Most mages tap into Magic through controlling and amplifying the natural elements of the world. Heat can be made to create fireballs, lightning bolts, tidal waves. It can also be used to empower items to have a keener edge, or even in rare circumstances lend intelligence to items. Mages can teleport through Magic to far flung places or view them from afar. In its most rare usages, mages can use Magic to harness and imprison drops of the void itself to control undeath.
A calm in thesea of Magic
At certain points in the world there are places of intense calm where magic flows so heavily and at such rest that it cannot be tapped into. These places are special as ceremonies and rituals have been found that use the power without casting for strange purposes.
Creatures of Magic
With the power of so many gods going into its creation there were bound to be strange things in the sea of Magic. Creatures emerge from time to time from simple elemental sprites to massive beasts of pure Magic. Mages seek either to capture and control them, or seek them out for strange wisdom unknown to mortals
Holes in the sea of Magic
There are rumours that since the Night of Fire there have been holes and vortexes in magic. Some simple permanent magical spells have gone wild and whole regions are now so ruined that simple spell casting is impossible without the risk of the spells going haywire.
