If ya hadn’t warned me I’d have shite myself when they came over the horizon. Two hundred strong walking feckin boulders. Sure they’re shaped like men but with that stone skin and pure black eyes. Something out of a fever dream. They treated us with honour though, fire arms and boilers for our fish and spices. Hells I’d not want to face them in anger though.
Rufus Gregor – Letter to the Guild-master of Trade
Dwarves were made by a small group of gods that wanted a race closer aligned and comfortable in the depths of the earth and created a race that to outsiders seem constructed of stone itself. Their skin is hard and has the look of slate or granite and their eyes are pure black orbs that allow them to see in the darkness. Their hair is thicker and rougher than the other races and comes in colours ranging from copper to gold and silver. As a group they are impressive engineers and formidable warriors.
In regards to the other races
Few civilized races intrude on the dwarves in their depths and they tend to not intrude on the affairs on the surface but it is not uncommon for small communities of dwarves to move to the cities of man to trade or build. They are prideful of the work that they build and only the gnomish engineers can rival their work. The only regular clashes they have are with the halflings as the engineering work takes a monstrous amount of timber which the halflings defend with ferocity.
In regards to the undead
The dwarves have been lucky that the scourge of the undead has mostly been avoided in the depths. Therefore they have as a race not had a unified approach. There are other monsters in the depths that they need focus on.
