With the loss of gods and Shards alike, the world found a relative time of peace and prosperity. Settlements rebuilt and time could be devoted to learning and education. Irrigation, Water transport, and a deeper understanding of the elements led to a breakthrough in powering movement with steam. The first steam engines were attributed to the gnomes of Cragspeak and allowed them to excavate and move great amounts of rock. Further advancements led to rail bound wagons powered by engines and then the great airships. While these are touted as pure technological advancements there is often a core of magic as cores from fire elementals are used often to produce heat.

While the gnomes were perfecting steam engines the dwarves of Ragath Keep invented and continue to perfect a black powder that explodes when met with fire. This gunpowder was first used to power dwarvish engines but found its niche in the great cannons and rockets the dwarvish army brings to bear.

There was a crash like a thousand peals of thunder at once and we watched as the side of the valley dissolved into smoke and fire. There was a band of ogres on that side so I suppose violence was warranted but I think they were more making a point to me.
